Courses Frequently asked questions

How do I book my course?
Please go to the booking page. Please make sure you have read the terms and conditions and send a payment and completed booking form.

Where are the courses held?
My courses take place at Ravenshill Woodland Reserve, Alfrick, Worcestershire, which is a 50 acre privately owned nature reserve, which has a patchwork of diverse habitat including many indicator species of ancient semi-natural woodland. It has both deciduous and various conifer species.

How do I get to the course?
Ravenshill Reserve is situated at Grid ref. SO740539 The post code is WR6 5QP It is between Lulsley and Alfrick, roughly mid way between Worcester and Malvern. Follow signs for Lulsley from the Bankhouse Hotel on the A4103 Hereford to Worcester Rd. Click here to go to a googlemap of Ravenshill.

What are the start and finish times?
The courses normally start at 9am and finish at 4pm each day.

What are the eating arrangements?

What toilet facilities are available?
There are both men's and ladies flushing toilets available within the woods.

How fit do I have to be?
A basic level of fitness is required as you will be active in the woods.
All of the courses have a practical element.

How old do I have to be?
We have a minimum age of 16 with the exception of the adults and young persons woodland experience weekends. These have a minimum age of 16 when accompanied by an adult.

What kit should I bring?
Sensible outdoor clothing is essential as the woodland is often wet, slippery and muddy. I recommend you bring a fleece or wool hat and waterproof and windproof jacket and trousers. Cargo/combat trousers are idea. I don't recommend you wear jeans as the take a long time to dry out once wet and cold.

Do I need to bring along any tools?
No. All tools are provided which are good quality and sharp.
There is the opportunity to purchase tools at the end of the course.
Billhooks, Side axes and Froes are normally available.

Do I require any experience?
Absolutely not. All of our courses are designed to extend participants skills and knowledge of woodlands.

Can a group attend courses?
Yes. Our courses are designed for individuals to gain skills and knowledge of woodlands, but we are more than happy to take bookings from groups.
Please fill in a booking form for each individual attending the course. And contact us to ensure that there are sufficient spaces available. If there are more than four people in your group we can arrange a separate course for your group.

What happens if it is raining?
We believe in working with nature and that includes the weather.
Courses will run in all weathers and in England that includes rain.
Courses will only normally be cancelled due to extreme wind or very heavy snow.

Is accommodation available?
Camping is available in the wood for course participants on two day courses at a cost of £6 per night per person. There are also some excellent hotels and B&B'S locally. Please go the LINKS page of my website for local accommodation.
